CHAMPS 2019 | Brilliant Farquharson shatters 32yo 800m record

Calabar’s Kimar Farquharson shattered the boys Class One 800m record at the ISSA/Gracekennedy Boys and Girls Championships at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Farquharson captured the event in 1:48.67 seconds to erase the previous mark of 1:48.84 seconds, which was set by Sherwin Burgess from Vere in 1987.

Enid Bennet’s Tyrice Taylor, who was the favourite to win the event, having recorded a personal best of 1:48.86 two weeks ago, was second in 1:48.91 seconds, while third went to KC’s Tarees Rhoden in 1:49.04 seconds.

Kingston College’s (KC) Jacquan Coke turned in a spectacular late run to the boys Class Three 800m in 1:58.50 seconds.

Bellefield’s Tavaughn Martin, who was caught by Coke metres from line was second in 1:58.68, while third went to Alex Taylor from St Jago in 2:01.40 seconds.

Meanwhile, Hydel’s Charokee Young won her second gold medal of the championships when she won the girls Class One 800m in 2:06.02 ahead of Shaquena Foote (2:06.85) and Abigail Schaaffe of St Mary High 2:08.83 seconds.
