‘Everyone’s A Winner’ embraces Father’s Day
Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis, race director of Running Events, says a 3K run has been introduced to this year’s staging of the Everyone’s A Winner/The Best Dressed Chicken race-day to encourage fathers to run with their children. That race is in addition to the established 5K Run, 5K Walk, 5K Stroller and 10K Run. It starts at Hope Gardens in St Andrew on Sunday at 6 a.m.
Francis said the race is a part of the Jamaica Moves Corporate Challenge, an initiative of the Ministry of Health & Wellness, which will see corporate teams competing in the races. The Jamaica Moves programme encourages organisations to become ambassadors by promoting healthy lifestyle habits among their employees.
Loraine Kemble, brand manager of the Best Dressed Chicken, describes the event as special.
“This is meant to be a unique race-day for the entire family, offering a healthy balance between the body and soul,” she said.
Kemble said that this year, the race will benefit the Jamaica Association of the Deaf and the Diabetes Association of Jamaica, with members of both entities volunteering their services to ensure a memorable event for all participants.
At an awards ceremony, each of the first 2,000 finishers across all events will receive a commemorative medal. Also, the Roy Thomas Trophy, named after the veteran road runner, will once again be presented to the 10K Run team champions. Participants will also be offered massages and health checks, while there will be special treats for the fathers at the event.
Registration is open to all individuals and teams (corporate, clubs, church groups and family teams) and can be done online at www.runningeventsja.com or at its headquarters on Tower Street in Kingston.
