Victory Turn steals show in overnight allowance
VICTORY TURN made all the running to crash the party in yesterday’s overnight allowance at six furlongs, at odds of 26-1, upstaging 4-5 favourite LABAN.
A speedy five-year-old United States importee, VICTORY TURN coasted into the lane clear of LABAN before quickening away under Javaniel Patterson, completing the trip in 1:14.0.
LABAN failed to produce his usual closing speed, finishing second ahead of 13-1 outsider, RAW LIQUID. MONEY MONSTER, the 7-5 second choice, reported sporting bandages on all legs and never got into the pace.
Dane Nelson rode three winners to pull within one winner of Anthony Thomas, 36-35, with whom he shared last year’s jockeys’ championship.
Nelson opened and closed the programme with MOTHER NATURE (5-2) and DIOSA DE ORO (3-5). His second winner on the eight-race card was 3-5 favourite, OLDKINGCOLE, in the fourth event.
Thomas kept his head in front by going all the way aboard four-furlong straight specialist, MARKOFAPRINCE, in the seventh.
Racing continues at Caymanas Park this morning with an early 9:15 start.
