American youngster Athing Mu clocked a national record (NR) of 1:55.21 minutes to win the Women's 800m event at the Tokyo Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday.

Mu held off the challenge of Jamaica's Natoya Goule, who was second for about 700m before fading to finish in eighth place in a time of 1:58.26 minutes.

The silver medal went to Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson in an NR of 1:55.88, and bronze was taken by USA's Raevyn Rodgers in a personal best 1:56.81.
