MAHOGANY destroyed Fitzgerald Richards’ pair, blinding PATRIARCH with speed before turning on the afterburners, beating GOD OF LOVE by eight and a half lengths in yesterday’s Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission Trophy at five and a half furlongs.

PATRIARCH was sent as the rabbit, which lasted for two furlongs before things turned into the MAHOGANY show, pulling to the lead with Dane Dawkins and cruising into the lane, dropping a 45.2 half-mile split.

GOD OF LOVE never stood a chance as Ian Parsard’s MAHOGANY, who twice teased track records last season, at six and a half and eight and a half furlongs, stopped the clock in 1:05.0, crowning himself the fastest horse in the land with a near nine-length victory.

Meanwhile, Philip Feanny’s PRNCSSHOOTINGSTAR, went within two-fifths of SAMARAONTHELOOSE’s track record, posting 34.3 to easily win the season’s first two-year-old event at three furlongs in the $3.5 million BGLC/TOBA Juvenile Dash.

The two-year-old series closes with Race 2, the six-furlong Jamboree Sprint, on November 13.

Dane Nelson rode back-to-back winners on the nine-race card, favourites GENERAL MUBARAK and LIGHTNING MCQUEEN, in the fifth and sixth events, respectively.

Racing continues on Saturday with the Jamaica Derby and fillies-only Oaks, at 12 and 10 furlongs, respectively.

Gary Subratie’s CALCULUS is the ante-post favourite for the Derby after scoring an easy victory in the St Leger at 10 furlongs.

Today’s entries will answer the best-kept secret at Caymanas Park, a card which Parsard has kept close to his chest, whether 1000 Guineas winner, SHE’S A WONDER, who finished third in the St Leger, among colts and geldings, will take her chances against the boys in the derby as opposed to the Oaks.
