Mexico beat Reggae Boyz 2-1 at Azteca

Mexico defeated Jamaica 2-1 in their opening FIFA World Cup qualifying game at Estadio Azteca on Thursday evening.

Alexis Vega scored in the 50th minute for Mexico, before Shamar Nicholson got the equaliser in the 65th minute. Jamaica seemed to be heading for a valuable point but second-half substitute Henry Martín got the winner in the 89th minute to earn a win for El Tri.

Mexico had 27 shots with seven on target while Jamaica had only four, with one on target.

Jamaica will next face Panama at the National Stadium on Sunday.

In other matches from the tournament, Canada and Honduras drew 1-1, while Panama and Costa Rica drew 0-0, as did El Salvador and the United States.
