Gaynstead, St Catherine ease into ISSA U19 netball semis
FORMER champions Gaynstead High and St Catherine High both made it five wins in a row in the second round of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) urban area Under 19 schoolgirls netball competition on Wednesday as they topped their groups in advancing to next Friday’s semi-finals .
The Dalton Hinds-coached Gaynstead ended their fixtures with a big 57-6 win over Tivoli High to top Group One with 15 points while joining them from the group are St Hugh’s High who turned back Camperdown High 39-10 to finish second on 12 points.
Open Rally winners St Catherine High scored a big win in their final match of the round. They defeated Campion College 45-20. Joining them from Group Two will be first-time semi-finals qualifier Jose Marti High who outclassed former champions Norman Manley High 46-6 to end on 12 points and a second-place finish.
In other results on Wednesday, The Queen’s School edged Ardenne High 20-18 and Mona High overcame Tarrant High 30-29.
In the semi-finals, which will be played at the Leila Robinson Courts, Gaynstead will oppose Jose Marti before St Catherine face St Hugh’s.
On the same day the finalists in the Under-16 division will be decided. St Hugh’s will battle St Andrew Technical, while Norman Manley will face Immaculate Conception High.
St Hugh’s topped Group One after stopping Jose Marti 27-21 in their final second-round encounter on Wednesday while Norman Manley came out on top in Group Two after defeating Mona 34-22. In the semi-finals, St Hugh’s will go up against Immaculate while Norman Manley will take on St Andrew Technical.
