JPL breaks World Cup hiatus for five games
THE JAMAICA Premier League (JPL) resumes briefly during what should have been a break for the World Cup with one round of rescheduled games today.
Humble Lion meet Montego Bay United in one of five games at Wespow Park at 3:30 p.m.
Coach of Humble Lion, Andrew Price, is hoping to stop the high-flyers in their tracks and secure their mid-table position.
In other games, Harbour View play Faulkland at 2:30 p.m. and Dunbeholden take on Tivoli at 5 p.m. at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Cavalier travel to Drax Hall to face Mount Pleasant at 3 p.m. and Vere entertain Waterhouse at Wembley at 3:15 p.m.
Price admits that scoring goals continues to be Humble Lion’s Achilles heel but believes they are getting it right and expects a good result against their hosts.
“In our last game against Harbour View we didn’t score. We got a penalty and missed it. They went down to nine men and we didn’t take advantage.
“We have only scored three goals from our four matches. So we have to be more prudent and technical when we get in front of goal.
FINDING OUR FEET
“But we are adjusting and you have not seen the best of Humble Lion. It is very early and we are finding our feet but we are getting it right,” he said.
“Montego Bay, they are riding high. They haven’t lost a game all season but we look forward to the game and a good result.
“A win would put us in mid-table region and we want to finish and go into the break on a high. So when we return we will be prepared for the Christmas period, when we will have a slate of games.”
Montego Bay United’s coach Donovan Duckie has maintained that his team is still far from being the finished article and insists that the fans continue to be an integral part of what they have done so far this season and he hopes for this to continue.
“We will try to control what we can and impact the game. We will try to ensure that we are correct in every action that we play.
“To get the three points we have to do things properly but I wouldn’t ask them to get three points, we never do that. I just ask that they try to and get every action correct,” said Duckie.
After four rounds of games, Harbour View and Montego Bay share the lead at the top with 10 points, Cavalier follow in third on nine, Mount Pleasant are fourth on eight, Arnett are fifth with seven, then Molynes sixth with six and Tivoli seventh with five points.
