#Champs2023 | Calabar’s Lawrence in no-nonsense mood
After his final-throw upset at the hands of Jamaica College’s (JC) Raquil Broderick in the Class One discus yesterday, Calabar High School’s Kobe Lawrence was in a no-nonsense mood in the preliminary round of the Class One shot put earlier today at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships inside the National Stadium.
Lawrence made it one and done, throwing the Class One shot put out to 18.47 metres to be one of two athletes to automatically qualify for tomorrow’s final.
The qualification mark stands well back at 17 metres.
Broderick follows Lawrence into the final with his throw of 17.36 metres, setting up another clash of the big men.
Clarendon College’s Ricardo Hayles was just short of automatic qualification with 16.99, but was next best through to the final.
The other persons through to the final are Cornwall Colleg’s Mar-Lando Mullings, William Knibb’s Chavez Grey, Calabar’s Antoine Walker, JC’s Josh-Ty Brown, St Catherine’s Rajay Hemmings, Kingston College’s Despiro Way, Petersfield’s Yekini Brown, St George’s College’s Deandre Bristol, and Denbigh’s Rashick Brown.
