Edwin Allen members celebrate their Open girls' 1600 metres relay victory before being disqualified at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships tonight.

The girls’ section of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships has been set up for a dramatic finish after defending champions Edwin Allen were disqualified in the final of the Open girls’ 1600 medley at the National Stadium tonight.

Edwin Allen had won the event after captain Leanna Lewis lifted them from third to first on the anchor leg as they won in 3:58.01 minutes, with Holmwood Technical finishing second in 4:01.46 and early leaders St Jag, who finished third in 4:03.06.

Edwin Allen were, however, disqualified for a lane violation and lost the 12 points they had earned, which leaves the championships delicately poised with Hydel High six points ahead, going into the final event of the championships – the Open girls’ 4x400 metres.
