Imani Wilmot finishes fourth in the opening round heat at WSG
LA BOCANA, El Salvador:
Jamaica's only woman entrant at the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Surfing Games (WSG), Imani Wilmot, failed to advance to round two in the women's open after finishing fourth in heat 22 in the opening round at the La Bocana beach in Surf City El Salvador.
Wilmot, who battled illness heading into the opening round, managed scores of 1.23 and 1.77 on her first two waves of the heat to get a total score of 3.00.
Indonesia's Taina Angel impressed the judges and won the heat with a score of 11.00, while Canada's Erin Brooks booked the second automatic qualifying spot after she chalked up a score of 8.33.
Isabel Higgs of Thailand, with 6.33, was third.
Wilmot will next surf in the repechage, a second chance heat to qualify for future rounds.
