Urban ISSA netball begins today

ACTION IN the 2023 Urban ISSA schoolgirl netball competition will get underway today with the playing of matches in three zones.

Defending senior champions, St Catherine High School, who stopped Gaynstead 26-23 in the final last year for their first title, will start that inaugural defence against Vauxhall at home in Zone B action at 3:30 p.m. Both teams will be in junior action at 2:30 p.m.

Coach Phyllis Thompson is very optimistic about defending that title.

“We are very confident about retaining our title but we are taking it step by step,” said Thompson.

Thompson is even more confident after retaining all her top players.

“We have retained all of our players from last year’s winning team,” she said.

Some of these players include, MVP of last year’s final, goalkeeper Kaydene Gordon, goal defence Asharie Thomas, and goal shooter, Kellian Hunter.

In other games today, Innswood will be at home to St Andrew Technical in junior action.

Mona will be at home to St Andrew High in both junior and senior action in Zone A. Tivoli will host Jonathan Grant while Clan Carthy will do the same against Camperdown in junior action.

Jose Marti are at home to Holy Childhood and Papine host Merle Grove in both junior and senior action.

On Friday, defending junior champions, St Hugh’s will be in action iagainst Cedar Grove.

Also on Friday, Campion up against Tarrant in junior and senior action, while Alpha play Holy Trinity among the juniors.

Still on Friday, Kingston Technical will take on Gaynstead and Waterford host Queen’s in junior action while Bridgeport will host Norman Manley in both junior and senior categories.
