HOLMWOOD TECHNICAL were double winners on Thursday in the ISSA rural schoolgirls netball competition as the Carline Graham-Powell-coached junior and senior teams had easy wins in their Zone D encounters at Mile Gully High.

In the opening game of the double-header, Holmwood’s junior team, the defending rural and all-island champions, easily defeated their opponents 29-19. In a game which ended prematurely because of rain, the seniors won 59-7.

“The under -16 team is a bit new, as most of the players have moved up to the senior team, but we have a far way to go and we are taking it step by step,” coach Graham-Powell said after her junior team’s victory.

After failing to reach the final last year, Graham-Powell is very confident that her senior team will go all the way this season.

“Our senior team is very strong this year, as most of the players from last year’s winning junior team are now in the squad, plus we have four Under-21 national development squad members in the team, in goal attack, Jada Ricketts; goalshooter, Jaden Swaby; centre, Jessica Chaplain; and goal defence, Shaqwan Hamilton. With this very strong cadre of players, I am very confident that both rural and all-island titles will return to Holmwood this year,” Graham -Powell said.

Holmwood’s seniors are 12-time rural champions.

In other matches played on Thursday, Green Pond High had double success in Group A. Their juniors got by Irwin 17-5 while the seniors whipped their rivals 17-14. In another game in the zone, Holland High had a narrow 7-5 win over Muschett.

In Zone G action, Old Harbour High got by Ewarton High twice. The juniors won 23-8 while the seniors had a 30-9 victory.

In Zone I action, Titchfield High juniors got by St Thomas Technical 36-12 before St Thomas Technical turned the tables in senior action, winning 20-18.,

In other junior games, former champions Denbigh High blew away Kemps Hill High 49-4 in Group F, while, in Group H, Brown’s Town High easily got by Marymount High 22-10.
