Reggae Boy Lowe on target for Swansea

LONDON, England (CMC):

Reggae Boy Jamal Lowe scored for the second straight week, while Grenada international Kairo Mitchell banged in his fifth of the season, as Swansea City and Rochdale suffered contrasting results on Saturday.

In a championship clash away in southeast London, the 29-year-old Lowe laid the groundwork for a dominant performance by the visitors, with a 23rd minute penalty, as they beat Millwall 3-0 at The Den.

Mitchell, meanwhile, was on target in the first half at Spotland Stadium but hosts Rochdale squandered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Southend United in the National League.

Swansea City, who got their first win of the season last weekend with help from Lowe’s penalty, also had the Jamaica international to thank again, as he scored again from the spot.

When Jerry Yates was fouled by centre back Jake Cooper, Lowe stepped up to beat Polish goalkeeper Bartosz Białkowski, to continue his decent form since his season-long loan move from Bournemouth earlier this month.

Matt Grimes then added a second goal in the 57th before Mykola Kuharevich scored in the 79th, to finalise a result which lifted the Swans out of the bottom three and into 19th place on nine points.

Also in the Championship, Bermuda international Nahki Wells netted his third goal of the campaign and second of the league, but Bristol City surrendered a two-goal lead in the first half to go under 3-2 to Stoke City.

Sam Bell put the hosts ahead in the fifth minute at Ashton Gate in the southwest before the 33-year-old Wells pounced on an errant back pass in the 15th minute to double the lead.

However, Algeria international Mehdi Leris led the fightback with a 20th minute strike, to ensure Stoke was in with a chance at the break.

Sead Haksabanovic levelled the game in the 47th before Nathan Lowe, a 65th minute substitute, grabbed the winner in the 89th minute.

In north England, the 25-year-old Mitchell produced a 24th minute header to double Rochdale’s lead after Jimmy Keohane had provided the opener in the 10th minute.

But Harry Cardwell struck twice, in the 26th and 64th minute, to ensure a share of the points for Southend.
