Molynes, Chapelton play out exciting 0-0 draw in JPL
Molynes United and Chapelton Maroons played to an exciting 0-0 draw in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) fixture at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium yesterday.
Both coaches were disappointed they could not snatch all three points after creating good opportunities to score in the game.
“We were a bit wasteful. We created some good opportunities and at this level we should be doing better.
“We also had some half chances, but we did well in a lot of areas, and for that I am happy,” said Molynes coach Jermaine Thomas.
His counterpart, Jermaine Douglas, also thought they let themselves down in front of goal.
“The first half we had more control and should have scored. We created a number of chances and should have taken one. But there are positives, and we will keep working and get better for the future,” he commented.
Molynes created the first opening of the contest, but Devone Davis’ overhead kick went just wide.
Chapelton had most of the possession and a few half chances but nothing to test goalkeeper Prince-Daniel Smith in goal.
Midway the half, Peter McGregor made a big shout for a penalty after he was brought down in the box, but his appeal was turned down.
Chapelton’s best chance of the half fell to Levaughn Williams, who was picked out by Nathaniel Howe, but he could not direct his effort on target from six yards.
After the break, Molynes were on the attack early, and McGregor wasted a great chance when he was sent through on goal, but he got his touch all wrong and lifted high and wide.
Williams responded almost immediately when he directed a shot between two defenders from 12 yards, but a razor-sharp Darren Donaie in goal superbly parried for a corner.
Donaie also had to be at his best again moments later to deny Andrew Vanzie at the near post after a good play from the veteran midfielder.
Shamaro Dennis then came close for Molynes after making space in the box but dragged his shot wide.
The attacker was also denied again at the death after he broke through, but an alert Jovell Plunkett, who replaced Smith at the interval, snuffed out the chance.
The two teams are now on 17 points, but Chapelton are one place better in eighth by virtue of a superior goal difference.
