Venezuela arrests 2 military officers for drug trafficking
Venezuelan officials have arrested two retired military officers wanted for alleged drug trafficking.
The interior ministry put out a statement Monday saying an anti-narcotics task force had arrested retired National Guard Captain Vassyly Villarroel RamÌrez. RamÌrez was named in an Interpol alert and has been classified as a drug kingpin in 2013 by the United States Treasury Department. Officials say he has ties to Mexican and Colombian cartels.
The task force also arrested former National Guard Lieutenant Robert Alexander Pinto Gil on Monday. The ministry accuses Gil of leading local drug trafficking gangs. He escaped from a Mexican prison in 2012.
National Guard commander Nestor Reverol says the two will be brought before the courts soon.
