The state of Colorado in the United States is training teachers to carry guns in classrooms.

According to a BBC report the move is to protect children and stem school massacres.

The BBC says 17 persons have participated in the three-day course which began on Tuesday in Weld County.

The course consists of firearms and medical training and is being offered by the Faculty Administrator Safety Training and Emergency Response group (Faster).

Faster was initiated by parents, medical experts and law enforcement officers who believe that schools in the US are vulnerable to violent attacks and are “soft targets.”

A 2012 school massacre has motivated the move.
