The University College of the Caribbean (UCC) will host student orientation exercises this week. The first session will be held on Wednesday, January 6, commencing at 5:30 p.m. at UCC's Montego Bay Centre at 16 East Street. This is for new students from Ocho Rios, Savanna-la-mar and Montego Bay. The keynote speaker will be Lloyd B. Smith, managing director, Western Publishers Ltd.

The second student orientation session will be held on Thursday, January 7, commencing at 5:30 p.m. at UCC's main campus at 17 Worthington Avenue. All new students enrolled at centres in Kingston, May Pen and Mandeville are invited to attend. Milton Samuda, president of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, will deliver the keynote address.

UCC President Winston Adams, CEO Geraldine Adams and several faculty members will also address the new students.

As part of general orientation activities, new students will be introduced to Campus Tools, the web-based Student Management System through which they will communicate with peers as well as faculty. Specific returning cohorts will also join in this exciting development across all UCC centres.

Deanna Swaby, information and access services manager, says Campus Tools can be accessed using any suitable browser connected to the Internet. Student service coordinators and Campus Tools administrators, she says, will be providing eligible students with their user names and passwords, along with the Campus Tools website address, during the period leading up to the start of the term on January 10, 2010. UCC faculty, new and returning, will also be receiving information to allow them to begin preparing for the new term using Campus Tools.
