Bunting's 'buttu' politics
The Editor, Sir:
There are very few things in Jamaica that surprise me anymore. However I was a bit taken aback with the pronouncement of Peter Bunting on TVJ's Prime Time news on Tuesday, January 5. Bunting alleged that the Government's delay in signing the extradition order for Christopher Coke was contributing to the high crime rate.
My question to Bunting is, who did his government fail to extradite in their almost 19 years in office why the murder rate leapt from just under 500, when they took office in 1989, to over 1,000 yearly, with a high of 1,674 (officially) in 2005?
Does that mean that those of us living in central Jamaica, especially Clarendon and Manchester, should attribute the rise of crime though the years in our parishes, to any particular PNP activists with similar notoriety and considered untouchable?
Mr Bunting, I urge you and your comrades to cut out this type of buttu politics and act with a sense of responsibility.
I am, etc.,
