It's a new year and we are in a recession, so there may not be enough cash to replace items in your wardrobe. It's time to make your closet work for you by discovering great classics you already own.

Veronica Stokes of Adrienne, has been in the business of providing business and formal suits to corporate women for several years, and she advises clients to add a few new pieces to create an endless look, while adding versatility to old faithfuls.

"Begin the year with floral - it feels right as we face 2010. Spring green is such a beautiful colour, fun and functional, it can be worn with a floral shell, great fitting pants, a skirt or jeans," Stokes notes.

She suggests throwing on a tropical tailored jacket with built-in stretch for style and comfort. And, for a more relaxed look, a print cardigan worn over a stripe fitted shirt also makes a statement.

Stokes continues, "How about a fuchsia cardigan with detailing at the back worn over print shell top and teamed with the same basic navy pant suit? A navy shift enhanced with long cardigan is another alternative, especially if you are travelling overseas."
