Mid-season finalists Reno and Seba United completed their first-round fixture in the 2009-10 Captain's Bakery Super Football League in fine style on Sunday, coming away with good wins against Montpelier and Granville, respectively.

By virtue of their wins, Reno and Seba United, who were both assured of their place in the competition's mid-season final following the 10th round of matches, completed the competition's first-round fixture with the identical record of nine wins and two draws from 11 games, which gave them 29 points each.

Frome went goal-crazy

In other games played on Sunday, Frome went goal-crazy against Prosper, spanking them 13-2, Exidus clipped Petersfield 1-0, Catherine Hall edged Violet Kickers 1-0 in their Montego Bay derby, while Wadadah and Bamboo battled to a 2-2 draw.

In their game against the fancied Montpelier, the Werndell Downswell-coached Reno easily contained the challenge of their rivals and then snatched victory, courtesy of their prolific striker, Martin Williams, who got both goals.

"This game was good preparation for the upcoming mid-season final against Seba United," said Downswell. "Our ultimate aim this year is to go all the way in this competition and regain a place in the 2010-11 Digicel Premier League."

Having recently lost to Granville in the final of the 2009-10 St James Captain's Bakery Knock Out competition, the Seba United team went into Sunday's game at the Sam Sharpe Teacher's College grounds as the underdog as many see the venue as Granville's fortress.

However, at the end of full time, it was the Seba United team which was smiling, thanks to their close 3-2 win which came courtesy of goals by Jeremy Bucknor (two) and Iton Scott. Skipper Garth Johnson and David Gillard got the goals for Granville.

The mid-season final, which was originally slated for this coming Sunday, has been pushed back to Sunday, February 7, because of this Sunday's international game between Jamaica and Canada at the National Stadium.

The full points standing reads: Seba 29, Reno 29, Frome 24, Bamboo 21, Catherine Hall 18, Granville 16, Exidus 13, Montpelier 10, Violet Kickers eight, Petersfield seven, and Wadadah and Prosper four each.
