Murder is murder

The people of Reapers Road in Maverley remain in mourning today, one week after criminals killed two persons in our community.

In one incident, a young member of the Jamaica Defence Force, Tursha Lambert Lee, was brutally slain by gunmen as he waited for a bus on Washington Boulevard after visiting his sister in neighbouring Drewsland.

Hours later, 19-year-old Dwayne 'Reds' Lewis was killed by officers of the State in circumstances which objective observers have agreed look very similar to the murder of the young soldier.

This poem was penned by a member of the community to the police and soldiers involved in that shooting.

They killed your colleague, I will agree,

This was not how it was meant to be.

I feel your hurt, I feel your pain,

But tell me now, what will you gain

When youth who are innocent are slain?

Will this make you a better man?

Please, oh please help me to understand,

Why is one murder right and another wrong?

Murder is murder no matter who,

If you kill the innocent you are a murderer too.

We are, etc.,
