Super confident Kerr in action today

Errol Kerr, Jamaica's lone competitor at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, will begin his quest for a historic medal at the Games when he competes at 12:15 p.m. this afternoon in the ski cross event.

The 25-year-old, viewed by many as an outside contender for a podium finish, is in good spirits ahead of his run, according to his coach and ski technician Eric Holmer.

Holmer himself was very confident when speaking of his charge's chances on the mountain and general level of readiness, shortly after a trial run yesterday afternoon.

"He (Kerr) is as prepared as he can be at this stage," Holmer said. "His spirit is really high, and he is looking forward to the competition tomorrow. He has been working really well in the trial runs and we are just waiting for the competition to start."

The former US ski team member, who changed his allegiance to Jamaica for a chance to represent the country of his father's birth has had 12 trial runs so far and was scheduled to stage another this morning before the start of competition.

Holmer is happy with the nature of the course, and believes that the high number of jumps will work in favour of his young skier in the event which will be completed today.

"Errol is super confident about his chances, we all are. We have spent a lot of time on the course. There are a ton of jumps and that is one of his strong points, so he is really confident and looking forward to the competition," said Holmer. "There are one or two guys who are considered to be the so-called favourites but Errol is right up there and has a magnificent chance of getting among the medals."
