Two men who escaped from the Oracabessa lock-up in St Mary early yesterday morning were still on the run up to mid-afternoon.

The police have identified the escapees as 26-year-old Shamarie Wright, otherwise called 'Shammy', and 46-year-old Trevor East.

The men reportedly escaped after cutting the grille from their cell, and it was discovered they were missing between 4 and 4:30 a.m.

Wright is charged with murder and two counts of shooting with intent and was scheduled to face a series of identification parades in relation to other shooting incidents in St Mary.

He is known to frequent Enfield, Juno Pen and Annotto Bay in St Mary, and Old Harbour in St Catherine.

East is also on a charge of murder and two counts of shooting with intent.

Superintendent of Police in charge of St Mary, Dudley Scott, said Wright is considered "very, very dangerous". He appealed for the assistance of the public in efforts to capture the escapees.

Scott said there was a major operation going on to recapture the escapees and investigations were in full flight regarding the escape.

Meanwhile, a Tech-9 sub-machine gun and a 9mm magazine were recovered by the St Mary police in an operation carried out in Annotto Bay in the parish around 5 o'clock yesterday morning.

No one was held in the incident.
