May Pen churchman celebrates his 90th

MAY PEN, Clarendon: Lancelot St Nelson Richards, a well-known father figure in May Pen, celebrated his 90th birthday on February 20, during a special function held in his honour at the St Gabriel's Anglican Church hall in the Clarendon capital.
The function was attended by scores of well-wishers, including family, friends and a wide cross section of people from May Pen and across the island.
'Lance', as he is affectionately called, was praised for being an outstanding pillar in his community. He has served his church as a lay reader, choir member and organist; and has been a public servant, tailor and music teacher to many in and around May Pen.
Sylvester Bryan, founding member of the St Gabriel's chapter of the Brotherhood of St Andrew, described Richards as a hard-working and committed individual.
Among the highlights of the function was the cutting of the birthday cake by Richards and Leida, his wife of 51 years.
In his reply, the nonagenarian thanked the attendees and emphasised the importance of embracing uprightness and shunning corruption.
"Life is short, enjoy it. Old age will come - go you must," he said.
