A Kingston Polo Club team will take on the visiting Newport team in a polo match this morning at the Caymanas Estates starting at 11.

For the past 10 years or so, the Newport Polo team from Rhode Island in New York has engaged Jamaican teams in home and away tournaments annually.

Newport usually visit in March while the Jamaicans journey to Newport for the return leg in August of each year.

According to Jamaica's top female polo player Lesley Fong-Yee, the return leg in Newport usually attracts large crowds. Jamaica is one of the favourite teams to visit there, Fong-Yee said. In Newport, they attract spectators from New York and as far as Boston.

The Newport team comprises Dan Keating (captain), Jim Garner, Sam Shore and Leonard Nigliani, while Pieter Barron, Mark Chin, Mark Melville and Michelle Suburan round off the Kingston Polo Club team.

The first of the three scheduled matches, which was scheduled for Chukka Blue in Hanover last Thursday, was rained out.
