Alarming rate of power cuts

Published:Sunday | March 21, 2010 | 12:00 AM

The Editor, Sir:

Western Jamaica has been suffering an alarming rate of unscheduled power cuts. The electricity company representatives do not have the common courtesy to apologise to the citizens for this disrespectful act.

What is more disturbing, the people have been cowed into believing that they have no alternative but to accept this disrespectful act as a right of the power company. Production, damaged property and goods are costing millions of dollars.

No one seems to care

No one in Government, the chamber of commerce or the Rotary seems to care about this monster which has climbed on to the backs of the working class, except for Jamaicans living outside of the country. Finally, where are our political representatives?

Jamaica has been systematically unravelling the threads that have made up its moral and psychological compass for the last 45 years.

Poor manners and uncivil behaviour should not be tolerated. However, this has become the norm in Jamaican society, and it must be stopped cold in its tracks.

I am, etc.,
