It is time for citizens to act!
The Editor, Sir:
It is with great dismay I write this letter. The way criminals have become bold and relentless in our society is disgusting. I can just imagine the pain and agony the parents of those three students, who were shot in the bus on Monday, are going through. I can imagine they might be praying earnestly to God for the survival of their children.
It is ludicrous to think of how decripit our society has become for gunmen to see it fit to open fire on a bus carrying innocent commuters. The regard for human life has become so deplorable that no one sees it necessary to help anymore.
When will we stop turning a blind eye to the things that are destroying us as a nation? When will we, as citizens, wake up to the reality and realise we need to take a stand and protect our children from violence and negligence, and play our part as citizens and help the police rid the streets of criminality?
For far too long, we have sat down, hoping the politicians will solve the problem. They can't do it alone. As a matter of fact, they cannot do it all. We the citizens have the power to make the change needed. We need to rise up. It's time to take a stand to protect our children from criminals and strive for a safer and better Jamaica.
I am etc.,
