June hearing for Robinson's citizenship case

THE ELECTION petition filed by elector Manley Bowen, seeking to oust Member of Parliament Shahine Robinson on the grounds of her dual citizenship, has been set for hearing on June 7.

The date was set at a case-management conference before Chief Justice Zaila McCalla on Wednesday.

Bowen, an elector in the North East St Ann constituency, is contending that Robinson is not qualified to sit in Parliament because she was a United States citizen at the time when she was nominated as the Jamaica Labour Party candidate for the September 3, 2007, general election.

The Chief Justice has set the hearing for five days in the Supreme Court and has ordered the parties to make full disclosure of documents relevant to the case.
