Illegal connections to a Jamaica Public Service (JPS) utility pole in Majesty Gardens, St Andrew. JPS loses, to thieves, almost 13 per cent of the electricity it produces. The police and politicians have done little to curb the practice while law-abiding citizens foot the bill. Notice the bulb and makeshift ladder.
Several residents in the Allman Town area in Kingston were left homeless after fire destroyed their houses last year, forcing them to live under tents for months. After their appeal, they were given new houses. But all may soon go back to ashes with the web of illegal connections from high-tension JPS wires.
Shops and stalls impede pedestrian flow on the sidewalk in front of the University Hospital of the West Indies in St Andrew. Illegal vendors have for years been a public nuisance at this spot, presenting a traffic hazard near the hospital entrance. Here, impunity reigns! So much for the silence sign in the background.
