Haile Selassie High on the double

Displaying a high quality of play, Haile Selassie High took both the boys and girls trophies in Friday's finals of the LIME schools knockout badminton competition at the Constant Spring Golf Club's Racquet Complex.

The girls, who were the defending champions, had an easy day, blanking each of their opponents, St. Andrew High in the semi-finals and a depleted St. Hugh's High in the final, by 5-0. St. Andrew came away with third place.

The Haile Selassie boys meanwhile, cruised by Wolmer's 5-0 in the semi-finals but had a fight on their hands before getting by St. Anne's High 3-1 in the final. With the tie already decided, the fifth match was not played. The boys' third place play-off saw Calabar High putting away Wolmer's 3-0.

Shana-Kay Bailey defeated Monique Silvera 21-9, 21-9; Nicole Smith def. Ashley Chambers 21-4, 21-5; Stacy-Ann Blake & Sheinell Hyatt def. Monique Silvera & Roxanne Williams 21-4, 21-8, Shakira Bailey & Sheinell Hyatt def. Ashley Chambers & Roxanne Williams 21-4, 21-4, Shana-Kay Bailey & Stacy-Ann Blake won by walk-over.
