Another Information technology team from the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) is through once again to the Microsoft Imagine Cup world final.

Team Educ8 advanced after defeating teams from El Salvador, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and two other teams from NCU.

The competition took place via teleconference on April 28 at the university's main campus in Mandeville, Manchester.

"It is also significant for Jamaica because it happens at a time when we are losing everything else as a nation and this university continues to keep Jamaica in the spot of prominence in the rest of the world and has given all of us something to celebrate about," said Dr Herbert Thompson, president of NCU.

Team Educ8, comprising Trevor Williams, Caray McKenzie, Warren Robinson and Trecia Thompson - the first female to be part of the NCU Imagine Cup team - will travel to Poland to represent Jamaica and the Caribbean in the July 3-7 finals.

The software project for Educ8 is designed to teach literacy at the primary-school level.

The Imagine Cup encourages individuals worldwide to apply their creativity to technology innovations that provide solutions to real-world issues.

NCU placed third in the 2007 finals in South Korea.
