Protecting your brand
A logo is a unique sign or image that you can use to easily identify your product or service.
Your logo is what represents your company and is one of the key indicators that separate your product from your competitor's. So, invest some time thinking about what you want your logo to be and how it should look.
When you're ready to get it done, find a competent graphic designer who can bring it to life.
After taking the time and money to design your own unique logo, the next step is to protect it with a trademark. Now, a trademark is what protects your ownership of a logo, by making sure you have the exclusive right to use it.
Even if you register your business company name with the Companies Office of Jamaica, but neglect to register your trademark or logo, someone else could use it.
To prevent this from happening, you need to visit the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) and apply for a trademark, at 18 Trafalgar Road, Kingston 10.
