Jamaica's Anita Baker and Sherina Slater will be the two local entrants this Saturday when 21 young females from across the Caribbean converge in Trinidad to compete in the much-anticipated regional finale of the Elite Model Look Caribbean (EMLC), which is set to commence at 7 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad Hotel.

The event is the culmination of five months of planning and three months of searching across nine Caribbean countries for the most eligible young females. Three of these finalists will go on to represent this region at the Elite Model Look 28th World Finals in Shanghai, China, next month.

Anita and Sherina were chosen from a cadre of over 150 contestants who vied for the top spots in the recent casting calls held in Kingston and Montego Bay. Other castings were held in Trinidad, Tobago, Barbados, St Lucia, St Vincent, Grenada, Guyana, Antigua and Haiti.

Of the hundreds of model hopefuls who participated in the calls, 21 females received the nod from the selection jury. "The jury had a tough job but managed to select girls who they believe would create a fantastic regional finale show event. "The girls are all very excited to have made it this far," commented EMLC project Manager, Nadine Kanhai.

The Jamaican finalists left for Trinidad on November 8 to participate in several activities which will lead up to the main event. "We are very excited for Anita and Sherina," remarked Marcia McDonnough of Touchstone Productions, organisers of the local casting calls. "They are both beautiful and talented girls, and we know they will do Jamaica proud at the regional finals. They are hyped and quite prepared for the challenge, and special thanks is to be extended to T & T fashions, The Mushroom and Cleopatra's Collections, all of whom helped to make sure they were nicely outfitted for their trip to Trinidad.

The finale will feature a celebrity international host, as well as exciting live performances from a few surprise artistes including a special guest appearance by reigning 2011 Groovy Soca Monarch, Kes Dieffenthaller. However, the main feature of the event remains the 21 model finalists who will strut their stuff down the catwalk trying to impress the selection jury and general audience.
