Jamaican art has gone high-tech! Lovers of local art can now download a new mobile application from BlackBerry App World that shows art exhibitions listings and covers galleries, studios, student shows, fairs, pop-up shops and competitions.

The Panmedia-designed Art Eventja app concisely displays only critical information, and users can submit their own events that are included after the necessary verification takes place.

The app pulls content from Art Eventsja, a Panmedia Network website that offers current information on the growing Jamaican art scene.

The Art Eventsja App is compatible with all BlackBerry devices with OS5 and above, and uses a small install footprint and minimal network resources. The app can also be downloaded from the Panmedia website, www.panmedia.com.jm or from http://www.arteventsja.com.

useful information

"Mobile technology is opening up the world of art and providing new ways to display useful information and images," said Panmedia's lead developer, Vivian Gordon.

"Smartphones bring great versatility to visual content," added Panmedia CEO Knolly Moses. "So mobile is perfect for disseminating art information."

Artist and lecturer, Dr Petrine Archer-Straw, said: "I'm thrilled to be part of the team that has developed the art-events app. It represents where I think the arts should be at the cutting edge of contemporary culture. The idea that Jamaicans can have accurate listings of art events at their fingertips means that the arts are keeping pace with, and making the most of innovations in technology. I'm enjoying my role updating the app with event details and art-byte's mini reviews and news stories."

Panmedia develops mobile applications across all platforms. Its portfolio includes apps for weather, tenders, currency conversion and business listings.
