Village, Tivoli draw

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

A relentless fight by Red Stripe Premier League cellar team Village United earned them a point from a nil-all draw with defending champions Tivoli Gardens at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth on Sunday.

Playing under heavy windy conditions, Village withstood an early scare but went on to dominate the game.

The homesters were indeed lucky when a Shawn McKoy powerhouse free kick, helped by the wind, caused goalkeeper Odean Clarke to effect the save of the game by soaring to parry the ball over the crossbar.

Village's ace marksman Dino Williams missed an easy goal. With only the keeper to beat and many options to pass because he was unchallenged, the striker kicked wide.

The introduction of Jeff Pearce, the man who almost singlehandedly kept Village in this competition three seasons ago; and Tivoli losing Damion Gordon because of a vicious tackle on Ramando Anderson, Village got even more dominant and there were a number of close shaves for Tivoli.

Village's coach, Rohan Robinson said: "We should have won. We played well in most departments, but the finishing was not activated."

Assistant coach of Tivoli, Alvin Shaw, felt his team "played well and put out a lot, and dug in when needed".
