BUFF BAY, Portland:

Windy conditions at Lynch Park affected the game plan of Highgate United and Arnett Gardens, whose Red Stripe Premier League encounter ended nil-all on Sunday.

Highgate's coach, Geoffrey Maxwell, was pleased with the improved performance by his team following their 1-0 loss to Humble Lion on March 4.

"We played really well," he said. "I believe we won the 50-50 balls and the guys ran their heart out. Yes, the wind really affected both teams and I am happy with a share of the points."

Maxwell added: "I think the team is settling down now and given time, they will return to winning ways. I am with them for more than a week now and already I am seeing the improvement."

The first half saw both teams playing a cat-and-mouse game, but midway the half, Arnett started to put their attacks together through Richardo Smith, Leon Strickland, Kirk Ramsay and Lamar Nelson. However, Highgate defended stoutly with Kevin Williams, Anthowe Dawkins and Barrington James holding the fort.

The best chance of the entire game came in the 52nd minute when Nelson took a scorching free kick from 25 yards, which was struck low and hard to the left of Highgate's goalkeeper Ralston Robinson, who dived full stretch to his left to make a marvellous save.

Arnett's coach, Paul 'Tegat' Davis, was happy with the one point, but lamented the fact that his team has been dropping points at regular intervals.

"It was a very good contest," he said. "It was never going to be easy coming down here to play Highgate and the wind affected our game plan."
