THE EDITOR, Sir:
I would like to thank Orville Higgins for his article 'Give Messi his due' in The Gleaner of Friday, March 16, 2012.
I fully agree with you on the FACT that manyfootball enthusiastsacross the globe do not give Lionel Messi full credit based on the facthe has not won a World Cup! The funny part about that grey area is that for a superstar like Messi, who has not won a World Cup, his name is surely held high after EVERY match. That speaks volumes.
Right now, Messi is just five goals shy of breaking Barcelona's goalscoring record of 357 in ALL competitions.Sure, it was done with one club, but if that were to be an argument, I would like to see another player do the same within the same time span and around the same age.I can easily say that, it will NOT happen in my lifetime.
I would also like to add that I place Messi above Zinedine Zidane, because he has done much more for the teams he has played for.I don't have anything against Zidane, he is a player to admire, but respect should be given.
