Frustrating debit card 'switch'
THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is an open letter to the general manager of the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League (JCCUL).
I have a Credit Union Access Plus debit card that was working just fine until someone decided to change the 'switch' that these cards operate on. Since then, my experience with using the card has ranged from being inconvenienced, frustrated, embarrassed, and downright angry.
I now use the card with a feeling of trepidation because even with the knowledge that I have enough funds in my account to cover transaction amounts, I never know what to expect. Sometimes it registers that the amount was 'declined', even though subsequent checks at the credit union show that my account was in fact debited with the amount.
Sometimes I go to the ABM to make a withdrawal and no cash is dispensed even though subsequent checks at the credit union show that my account was debited the amount I tried to withdraw. Getting the funds credited back to my account is another story all by itself.
On behalf of all credit union members, I am appealing to you, Mr General Manager, to ensure that there is a sense of urgency in having this problem resolved, and to ensure that you have competent support, because I don't believe this is the kind of 'service' the credit union movement wishes to offer its members.
