Merlene is still the queen!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I found Hubert Lawrence's excellent, but somewhat biased article ('Is VCB the queen?', Thursday, March 22, 2012) unfair to the great Jamaican Olympian, Merlene Ottey.

How could he not mention Merlene Ottey's NINE Olympic medals in that story?

She has won three medals in the more popular and prestigious 100m at Olympic Games: bronze in Los Angeles (1984), silver in Atlanta (1996), and bronze in Sydney (2000).

She has won four medals in the 200m at the Olympic Games: bronze in Moscow (1980), bronze in LA (1984), bronze in Barcelona (1992), and silver in Atlanta (1996).

Her remaining two medals, bronze and silver, were won in the 4x100m relays in Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000).

Veronica Campbell-Brown, the FIVE-TIME Olympic medallist, has won one bronze medal in the 100m and a gold medal in the 4x100m relays in Athens (2004).

Until she can win more medals in the 100m at the Olympic Games, Merlene remains the queen!
