Caribbean Weekly Stock Report

March 19-23, 2012

Caribbean stocks ended the week lower on the back of declines in CSX 30 blue chip stocks and conglomerates.

For the week, 39,754,787 shares valued at US$11,649,940 crossed the floors of the six stock exchanges across Caricom, with 55 stocks advancing, 30 declining and 39 remaining unchanged.

Access Financial Services was the volume leader with 14,348,001 shares traded. Ciboney posted the largest gain for the week, up 33.31%, while on the losing end, Bank of Nevis fell 8.90%.

Table 1 provides a summary of the broad market indices for the week as well as some international reference points, while table 2 provides a summary of the sector indices across the Caribbean.

For the week, fifteen of the CSX 30 stocks advanced, nine declined and six were unchanged.

The CSX 30 lost 25.98 points to close the week at 1,272.89, down 3.20% year to date. There were gains for Banks DIH (9.55%), Desnoes & Geddes (8.42%), Caribbean Cement (3.56%) and Neal & Massy (1.61%).

On the losing end Cable and Wireless Jamaica fell 7.97%, Citizens Bank (2.78%) and Gleaner (1.53%).

On the Junior Market, six stocks advanced and six declined. The CJSX gained 15.5 points to close the week at 1,535.87, down 15.47% year to date.

There were gains for Lasco Financial (9.71%), Lasco Manufacturing (3.43%), Lasco Distributors (2.05%) and General Accident (1.88%).

On the losing end, AMG Packaging fell (7.49%), HoneyBun (6.39%), Jamaica Teas (2.67%), Access Financial Services (1.98%) and Caribbean Producers (1.73%).
