Jackson refutes claim that he supports salt tax

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WRITE in connection with the story, 'Jackson supports 'salt' tax', attributed to me in The Gleaner of Monday 26th. The wording of the headline is most unfortunate since nowhere in the reported text, or in my presentation, did I indicate that GCT should be applied to salt.

Unfortunately, the headline, while no doubt inserted for the sole purpose of attracting attention, actually distracts from the salient point that was clearly stated in the piece covering the PSWG tax proposal, which is one that has much merit.

Additionally, contrary to the views of many, provisions were included in dealing effectively with those persons at the lower end of the economic scale so that they would not be disadvantaged.

Sincerely,

John Jackson
