English Racing: Take Double Point at Lingfield

Published:Friday | March 30, 2012 | 12:00 AM

Today's racing takes place at Newcastle, Lingfield, Wetherby and Wolverhampton in the evening. There is also simulcast racing from Aqueduct and Hawthorne in the United States.

News coming out of England is that jockey Richard Hills will bid farewell to a sport that has been a fundamental part of his life for the past 33 years.

A winner of over 500 races in the UAE, 49-year-old Hills will also bring to an end an illustrious 15-year career as stable jockey to Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, deputy ruler of Dubai and UAE minister of finance.

Hills, son of trainer Barry Hills, notched his maiden winner at Doncaster in October 1979 on BORDER PATROL and secured his first Group One success on ASHAL in the 1990 Gold Cup at Ascot.

Elsewhere in the racing word, American Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert is reported to be doing well after a heart attack in Dubai where he was preparing to run GAME ON DUDE in the US$10 million Dubai World Cup on Saturday. And in the USA, two-time Eclipse award-winning jockey Ramon Dominguez, who rides out of New York, was formally presented with the 63rd George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in a ceremony at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Today at Lingfield in the 15th race, we like the look of DOUBLE POINT (3-1) to repeat at a mile, with Joe Fanning again in the saddle.
