Cabinet retreat to evaluate economy

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says the Cabinet will be going into a two-day retreat starting today to look at the present economic situation facing the country.

Speaking during the People's National Party's National Executive Council meeting in Mandeville, Manchester, yesterday, Simpson Miller noted that her administration has so far presented two supplementary budgets and the retreat was being held to further consider the various options facing the Government at this time.

She said the decisions coming out of the retreat would ensure that whatever the Government does, the Jamaican people would be protected, in particular the "poor, oppressed and dispossessed".

Simpson Miller said the Government intended to be fiscally responsible but at the same time the interest of the people would be paramount.
