Water polo stars ready to shine

As the national water polo teams put the final touch on their preparations to face champions Trinidad & Tobago in this weekend's Carifta Games Water Polo Championships, excitement and anticipation are rife in the camp.

Jamaica will have representation in three categories: 19 and under male, 19 and under female, and 15 and under male. These teams will be led by Darron-Ray Donaldson, Kristen Jones and David Bryan, respectively.

This tournament marks Jamaica's return to the championships following their absence in 2011. This will be a good opportunity for Jamaica to improve their ranking among their Caribbean neighbours.

Both 19 and under teams will benefit from a base of experienced players, some of whom have already represented Jamaica at the international level. This experience will be supported by a larger group of hard-working and energised new players, who are representing their country for the first time. This mixture of youth and experience should augur well for the country at this Carifta Games and is an indication that the programme is on a progressive path.

The 15 and under male team is confident that months of preparation and hard work have honed the skills, endurance and drive they will need to put on an outstanding performance on the weekend. Though inexperienced, the team is eagerly awaiting the chance to get their feet wet for their country, as they take on their rivals from Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas and Curaçao.
