The Culinary Federation of Jamaica (CFJ) hosted a cocktail reception last Thursday evening at the new Cardiff Hotel (formerly Runaway Bay HEART) to say thanks to sponsors who had assisted with the CFJ team to the annual Taste of the Caribbean culinary competition.

"The main focus of this evening's cocktail dinner is to say thank you to the sponsors who supported the Culinary Federation of Jamaica in 2011 and to introduce to everyone the new executive body," explained CFJ president Kenrick Stewart.

The new executive comprises Dennis McIntosh, Kenrick Stewart and Ignazio Podda, Randie Anderson, Warren Rowe, Kacia Whyte, Walcon Austin and Mark Cole.

Companies that were represented included: N&M Meats, Arosa, Rainforest, Vista Prints, Best Dressed Chicken, Red Stripe, J. Wray & Nephew and Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB).

"We're very pleased to have these persons who have sponsored before and persons who are potential sponsors, so good things are ahead," Stewart said.

Guest speaker, branch manager for JMMB Ocho Rios Horace Wildes, while commending the mission and vision of the CFJ as awesome, urged the continuation of quality service.

Preparing team for competition

The CFJ is currently preparing a team for the annual Taste of the Caribbean culinary competition, set for June 20-24 at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Miami.

A young and competent team is in training for the event. The team is expected to continue Jamaica's tradition of excellent performances at the competition.

Members of the team, who were introduced at the reception, are Bryan Lumley, Randie Anderson, Dadrian Coke, Garcia Brown, Lincoln Peterkin, Rushell Grindly, and Melissa Fletcher, bartender.

Said Stewart: "I think our chances are excellent, honestly. We're not known to do badly at the competition so everyone is expecting us to do well. It's going to be tough but we're all up to it."

The CFJ presented certificates of appreciation to Best Dressed Foods and Runaway Bay Heart Hotel for their assistance to the federation during 2011.
