There is to be a magisterial recount in the Mavis Bank division of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation local government election.

The recount is to commence next Tuesday in the civil division of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Esther Warner-Dixon, of the People's National Party (PNP), lost the seat by six votes, after the preliminary and final counts, to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate Alvin Francis.

Attorney-at-law Patrick Peterkin is representing Warner-Dixon, who has filed for the magisterial recount.

Francis polled 1,132 votes while Warner-Dixon polled 1,126.

The division, which falls in East Rural St Andrew, is one of two won by the JLP. The PNP won the remaining three.

Francis has been the councillor for the division for more than 20 years.

In the 2007 local government elections, Francis polled 1,180 votes to beat Warner-Dixon who got 629 votes.

During the 2007 elections, the PNP won only Harbour View. The JLP captured Dallas, Mavis Bank, Gordon Town and Kintyre.

The tables turned in the recent elections with only Gordon Town and Mavis Bank going to the JLP.
