UTech coaches' conference at Pegasus

The second annual University of Technology Coaches' Conference will be held today at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston, starting at 8:30 a.m.

This year's conference will be held under the theme: 'Maximising our potential, protecting our athletes'.

Among the presenters are Sam Vincent, former National Basketball Association (NBA) coach and a key member of the retired NBA players association.

Session One, which is slated to begin at 9:10 a.m., following registration and an official opening, will focus on sport sciences. Among the presenters in this session are Enrique Figuerola, who will speak on specific physical fitness for sprinting performance; Patricia Thompson, who will address sport nutrition, and Dr Warren Blake - doping and sport performance.

Business and sport

In Session Two, titled 'Business and Sport', Sam Vincent will speak on financial investment in sport development; Dennis Richards on intellectual property, and Paulton Gordon on business and sport.

The third and final session will focus on coaching techniques, with Vincent zeroing on fitness and the athlete and Patricia Thompson on nutrition and fluid management. Minister without portfolio with responsibility for sport in the Office of the Prime Minister, Natalie Neita-Headley, has been invited, while the awardees for this year's conference are Jamaica Netball Association President Marva Bernard and football coach Emerson Henry.
