LEXINGTON, Kentucky (CMC):Jamaican jockey Rajiv Maragh produced a solid ride to carry 4-1 bet Groupie Doll to victory in the US$300 000 Grade One Vinery Madison Stakes at Keeneland late Thursday.

In a seven-furlong trip, Maragh put the four-year-old chestnut fully to the front with a furlong to run before reaching the wire by three lengths in a time of one minute, 23.76 seconds.

It was the fifth win in 12 stars for William Bradley-trained animal.

"I got a good outside post and I just tried to get her involved in the race without doing too much early and after that she just finished really strongly," Maragh said afterward.

"She finished with a lot of power. She was long gone by the eighth pole."

Maragh, who had recommended the use of quarter-cup blinkers for the filly, said they had been of tremendous benefit.

"I think they helped a lot," he noted.

"They helped get her up into the race without doing too much. When I asked her, she really came with her run. She's got a lot of power."

Home Sweet Aspen with Joel Rosario took the early lead before giving way to Whipsaw City at the half-mile, as Maragh kept Groupie Doll in contention near the leaders.

He brought her four-wide into the stretch before overhauling the leaders mid-stretch and cruising to the wire.

The win for Maragh was his only of the day after he was successful in two other starts.
