Nominations open for GG Awards 2012

NOMINATIONS ARE now open for the Governor General's Achievement Awards (GGAA), which are presented annually in three categories in each parish.

These awards are GGAA for individuals over age 35, the Youth Award of Excellence for people 18-24, and the Award of Excellence for people 25-35.

Interested people are invited to nominate individuals from within their communities for recognition under the programme.

Nomination forms may be collected from the custos in each parish and are also available online at www.kingshousejamaica.gov.jm http://www.kingshousejamaica.gov.jm/ or http://www.governorgeneralsawarsjamaica.com/.

A list of custodes with contact information is also available at this website. Completed nomination forms for parishes in the county of Middlesex must be returned to the custodes by Tuesday, May 8; Cornwall by Tuesday, May 15, and Surrey by Friday, June 1.

The GGAA programme is presented annually under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor General. Since its inception in 1991, more than 400 people have been recognised for outstanding achievements in the course of overcoming significant difficulties and contributing to their communities.

The awards are presented annually to persons over the age of 35 from modest economic and social circumstances, and who have demonstrated upward mobility and are actively involved in their communities. Young people from each parish in the age cohorts 25 to 35 and 18 to 25 are also recognised for their academic achievement, community service involvement and leadership skills.
